IN A HOUSE

The exhibition ”In A House” opens in Jåstad, Hardanger, on friday the 20’th of March. The gallery originally belonged to the owners great grandmother, but has been left empty for a while now, and the artists have chosen this as their startingpoint and common theme for the show. Some of the questions the artists wish to raise are: what makes a house a home, and does a house have a value in itself, or just in relation to people? What happens to an empty house, what story does that tell? Can a house also be seen as a methaphor for the body, or a representation of our inner selves? With the roof as an image of the mind, the rooms as an exposition of the body, and the basement as the subconcious.

We start with the saying: ”People need houses, and houses need people” when we open all the windows and doors of the house in March to everyone who wish to come in and see our exhibition!

I ET HUS

Fredag 20. mars 2009 åpner utstillingen ”I Et Hus” på Jåstad i Hardanger.

Galleriet er opprinnelig et ubebodd ”oldemorhus” og kunstnerne har valgt å arbeide med dette som utgangspunkt og felles tema for utstillingen. Spørsmål kunstnerene ønsker å stille er blant annet: Hva gjør et hus til et hjem, og har et hus en verdi i seg selv, eller kun i relasjon til mennesker? Hva skjer når et hus står tomt, og hva slags historie kan det fortelle? Kan huset også sees som et bilde på kroppen, eller en fremstilling av våre indre liv? Med taket som et bilde på sinnet, rommene som fremstilling av kroppen, og kjelleren underbevisstheten.

Vi tar utgangspunkt i ordtaket ”mennesker trenger hus, og hus trenger mennesker” når vi fyller de ubebodde rommene i mars, og åpner vinduer og dører for alle som måtte ønske å komme inn og se utstillingen!
